Islam is based on the Quran and Hadith, which are its two main sources. Argumentation based on Greek philosophy is one of the changes in the religion that led to deviant trends and intellectual divisions in the Muslim world. One of the sects that emerged from such discussion was the Mu’tazilah. When they felt the Qur’an and the Sunnah disagreed, they prioritized intellect over the revealed texts of the Qur’an and the Sunnah. This mindset set a negative example for all following parties that sought to override the Qur’an and the Sunnah with reason and desire. Even today, many modernists and so-called reformists still adhere to their convictions, which have led to a complete denial of the Hadith’s authority.
Mainstream Muslim academics from around the world denounced this “Fitna” and responded to their accusations. Throughout each phase, they made an explicit response to their accus ations. The Scholars of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also took their part as they could and with all their resources they gave it their all. They explored every facet of challenging the legitimacy of the Hadith in Arabic, Urdu, Pushto, English, and Farsi. Some renowned names among them are: Sheikh Abdussalam Rustami, Maulana Yousaf Benori, Mufti Nizam ud Din Shamizai, Maulana Sarfraz Khan Safdar. This article provides a concise overview and analysis of their research on the subject.
