Summary
The principles of Halal and Haram in the teachings of the Qur'an hold significant importance for human welfare and well-being. These principles guide individuals to lead a pure life, free from impurity and harm. The aim of this research is to analyze the principles of Halal and Haram in light of two key Qur'anic verses, highlighting their jurisprudential and scholarly aspects. Dr. Wahbah al-Zuhaili's Al-Munir and Mufti Shafi' Usmani's Ma'ariful Qur'an serve as the foundation for this study. Both exegeses hold a distinguished position due to their comprehensiveness, authenticity, and clarification of Qur'anic teachings. The first verse emphasizes the importance of consuming Halal and pure food and expressing gratitude for Allah’s blessings, while the second provides details on forbidden items and their legal rulings. Dr. al-Zuhaili comprehensively addresses various jurisprudential details regarding the importance of Halal food, the principles of using forbidden items in emergencies, and the rulings on Islamic slaughter. He also presents well-reasoned views of scholars on the types of animals in land and sea, the parts of carrion, the prohibition of pork, and the avoidance of impure substances. Explaining the wisdom behind the prohibition of Haram items, he clarifies that they are detrimental to human health and spirituality. Ma'ariful Qur'an presents the principles of Halal and Haram with clear, accessible jurisprudential reasoning, covering everyday issues such as the status of blood, animal by-products, and imported European goods. Both exegeses provide a profound scholarly and practical understanding of how to live in accordance with Shari'ah, offering detailed guidance on the rulings of Halal and Haram.
