Abstract

The process of deriving rulings from hadiths and the role of gentleness in such derivations have been examined and verified. There is a notable diversity in the methods of derivation and inference, a variation that existed even among the Companions. Differences in interpretation stem from varying understandings of the texts and differing identifications of the causes or contexts within the hadiths. Similar variations are found among other Islamic scholars and jurists, including the four prominent imams. This article reviews the methods of derivation and inference specific to the Hanafi school of jurisprudence, exploring the principles and rules employed in inferring rulings.
