Iqbal's Concept of Freedom and the Tyranny of Monarchy

Abstract

Iqbal's philosophy and poetry centers around the concept of the "Self," which serves as the foundational theme of his intellectual framework. By positioning the Self at the core, he constructed a conceptual framework interlinked with other ideas, including freedom. Iqbal posits that the Self is integral to the development of an individual's consciousness regarding freedom. He emphasizes that the freedom of individuals and groups within a society or state is essential for the evolutionary advancement of humanity. According to Iqbal, the constraints of oppression and deprivation hinder individuals and communities from realizing their full potential. Thus, in this article it is tried to explore that how Iqbal advocates for the attainment of freedom as a fundamental human right, enabling individuals and groups to live, express, and practice their rights within a framework of equality and justice.
