This paper explores the vital role of metaphors in the Quran; it bridges the gap between human understanding and transcendent divine realities. Quranic metaphors promote a deeper comprehension of faith, divine attributes, and moral responsibilities. These metaphors do more than explain complex theological meanings; they evoke emotional as well as intellectual responses to Allah to inspire believers toward ethical behavior and spiritual devotion. The study explores the key role of Quranic metaphorical language from their linguistic, cognitive, and theological dimensions. The role of metaphors, which are mentioned in this article, is simplifying abstract spiritual concepts, encouraging reflection and contemplation, connecting Divine truths to human experience, illustrating the unseen, moral and ethical lessons, and supporting the concept of Tawhid. It focuses on how such figurative expressions would enhance the access and influence of divine guidance beyond cultural and temporal boundaries. This study aims to prove that metaphorical language can facilitate comprehension, reflection, and action in a manner that will improve the believer's journey to self-purification and closeness to Allah.
Lubna Iftikhar, Dr. Amir Hayat Copyright (c) 2025 Lubna Iftikhar, Dr. Amir Hayat https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0 https://journals.iub.edu.pk/index.php/uas/article/view/3508 Mon, 28 Apr 2025 00:00:00 +0000 An Analytical Study of Increasing Trends of Atheism in Modern Muslim World https://journals.iub.edu.pk/index.php/uas/article/view/3840
The analytical study of trends in the modern Muslim world discovers the dynamic changes taking place within different countries with a majority of Muslims. The Islamic way of life provides a support mechanism and helps patients with terminal diseases. Patients being diagnosed with a terminal disease experience high levels of death anxiety and spiritual grief. It is a period for carrying oneself nearer to Allah by engaging in practices like praying and reciting the Qur'an. Religious coping can help patients with a terminal illness to better manage their death anxiety and spiritual distress, ultimately leading to an improved standard of living. It is needed that the patients dealing with death anxiety and spiritual distress due to terminal illness have proper guidance and help to develop positive coping strategies. The current study looks into the role of Quranic therapy and Islamic counseling in the context of the Quran and Hadith, on the death anxiety and spiritual distress among patients suffering from terminal illness. References from the Quran, Hadith, life of Holy Prophet Muhammad (SWT), and later on from the well-known jurists of the Islamic world have been discussed in this study, with relevance to the death anxiety and distress in terminally ill patients.
Pir Mehr Ali Shah (1859–1937) was a famous Islamic scholar, Sufi saint, and spiritual guide for the Indian subcontinent's Chishti order. His intellectual work extended beyond Sufism to Hadith scholarship, in which his own approach in interpreting and explaining Prophetic traditions was different. This research explores Pir Mehr Ali Shah’s own approach in interpreting Hadith, focusing on his use of traditional Islamic scholarship complemented with spiritual knowledge acquired from Sufism. In a critical overview of his writings, most specifically Saif-e-Chishtiyai, this research considers how he addressed theological controversies, refuted misinterpretations, and ensured Prophetic traditions' authenticity. He took a balanced stance blending textual examination with intuitive spiritual perception, and his ideas proved acceptable to academia and masses alike. While most writers in his time were more likely to prioritize intellectual and rational elements in Hadith comprehension, Pir Mehr Ali Shah concentrated on contextual and spiritual elements, displaying a synthesis of reason and mysticism. This research also looks into his responses to contemporary challenges, specifically his engagement with modernist and reformist interpretations of Islam. These descriptions often resonate with the core principles of modern geology. This study explores the alignment between Quranic narratives and contemporary scientific theories—particularly the theory of plate tectonics and the geological role of mountains. By examining classical and contemporary interpretations from Islamic scholars alongside modern scientific findings, this research highlights the Quran's profound insights into the Earth's physical characteristics. Notably, the Quran’s depiction of mountains as “stakes” and its references to the Earth's balance, motion, and layered composition demonstrate a remarkable correspondence with current geological understanding. When examining the chain of transmission (isnaad) or the text (matn) of a Hadith, one often finds considerable variation in scholarly judgments. A major reason for this is the differing temperaments of scholars in the field of jarh wa ta‘deel (criticism and accreditation of narrators)—some adopting a more lenient stance, while others are stricter in their evaluations. Based on this, Hadith scholars are commonly categorized into three groups: the strict (mutashaddid), the moderate (mu‘tadil), and the lenient (mutasaahil). These differences are rooted in scholarly ijtihad (independent reasoning), and are influenced by their academic standards, methodological inclinations, and approaches to Hadith criticism. Certain scholars, such as Imam al-Tirmidhi, al-Hakim, and al-Bayhaqi, are considered lenient, while others like Shu'bah ibn Hajjaj and Yahya ibn Saeed are known for their strictness. The presence of such variation reflects the depth and complexity of the principles used to authenticate or weaken Hadiths. Since the practice of lenience in hadith can sometimes conflict with the principles and rules adopted by the scholars of hadit, a detailed and critical study of this concept is essential. Such a study should aim to clarify the true nature of Tasaahul, explore its underlying causes, and assess its impact on the authenticity of Hadith. This research will not only aid in the classification of Hadiths but also provide intellectual clarity and reassurance to students and researchers of Hadith.
Dr. Navid Iqbal Copyright (c) 2025 Dr. Navid Iqbal https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0 https://journals.iub.edu.pk/index.php/uas/article/view/3796 Tue, 27 May 2025 00:00:00 +0000 بلوچستان میں منتخب فقہی خدمات کاتجزیاتی مطالعہ https://journals.iub.edu.pk/index.php/uas/article/view/3813
The scholarly history of Balochistan holds a distinguished place due to the significant contributions of its scholars in the field of Islamic jurisprudence. The study highlights real-life testimonies, such as cases of character assassination, barriers to remarriage, and systemic neglect, while contrasting these issues with Quranic injunctions and Prophetic traditions that advocate for their rights and respectful treatment. The article underscores the dissonance between Islamic teachings, which protect divorced women's rights to maintenance, remarriage, and dignified treatment, and the patriarchal interpretations prevalent in Pakistani society. It calls for societal reform, policy interventions, and awareness campaigns to align cultural practices with Islamic principles, ensuring divorced women can lead empowered, dignified lives. Slogans such as "My body, my choice" and "Heat your own food" are cited as examples of rebellion against religious and familial values. Although various religions claim to uphold human rights, the article argues that Islam uniquely grants and protects women's rights. Despite this, Islam faces intense media scrutiny, especially regarding its treatment of women, leading to confusion and identity crises among Muslim women. The article highlights the contradiction between Islamic teachings and their flawed implementation in Muslim societies—such as the denial of inheritance and domestic abuse—which fuels anti-Islamic propaganda. The Pashtun region, known for its strong adherence to Islamic values, is a particular target of such criticism. A common accusation is that Pashtun society restricts women's education and work opportunities. Science is the name for the search to discover new things and to reveal the secrets of the universe by reflection in the universe according to organized rules. On the other hand scientism is to organize every being, ideas and ideologies present in the universe according to the scientific rules. Scientism wants science to interfere in the fields which are not historically the sphere of science. For example, beliefs, concerning the existence of God, Eden, Hell, Angels and ghosts etc. That's why scientism is the major reason behind irreligiosity and infidelity which is increasingly engulfing the societies. In western countries people in fact fall prey to scientism and become irreligious, liberal or agnostic. Because science makes the idea concrete in people's minds that only observable exists. Moreover what can't be observed has no existence at all. Since God can't be observed so He doesn't exist. In this way people refute God's existence by falling prey to scientism. And since everything in this temporal existence is for the sake of man only, so man is sovereign. So every consideration will be for the sake of this sovereign man. Man will be the measure of everything. Man's interest lies in his emancipation from everything since man is the supreme reality of this world. Mufti Yasir Nadeem Alwajdi has tried to refute this kind of thought in his still unpublished book “Tahafa Tul Malahida”. Therefore this article has taken stock of history of scientism, difference between science and scientism through their definitions, symptoms of scientism, arguments in favour of scientism and counter arguments given by Mufti Yasir Nadeem Alwajdi in his book “Tahafa tul Malahida”.In this article I have also taken care of verifying all references and provided comprehensive references.
The human inclination to seek recognition for abilities and good deeds is innate, enhancing personal growth and societal harmony. What are the etiquettes for listening to the Holy Quran? The Quran itself has explained that when the Quran is recited, listen attentively and remain silent. If the Holy Quran is listened with proper manners, it is both worship and Sunnah, and is equal in reward to reciting it. The article under consideration explain an important issue regarding the Holy Quran. In the past years, the trend of reading and listening to the Holy Quran while looking at it during Tarawih prayer was very low, but now it has been observed that this trend is increasing significantly. The imam masjid is reciting the Holy Quran by looking at it and the listeners are also listening by looking at it. However, an important means of preserving the Quran through oral memorization. Allah Almighty has arranged for the preservation of the Quran from the hearts of the memorizers. If we limit ourselves to reading the Quran while looking at it, it will cause a lot of harm. There is no example of reading the Quran while looking at it in the prayer, there is no evidence in the Quran and Sunnah, so we should recite as much as we can remember orally. Reading the Quran in the prayer by looking at it can lead to a lack of attention to memorizing the Quran, the trend that has emerged among the Ummah towards memorizing the Quran can decrease, negligence and carelessness can arise in memorizing it.
Imam Abu Nu'aym Ahmad ibn 'Abdullah al-Isfahani (d. 430 AH) was a prominent scholar of the fifth century Hijrah, known for his expertise in tafsir, hadith, and fiqh. It examines how the rise of modernist ideals—rooted in rationalism, individualism, secularism, and skepticism toward tradition—has deeply impacted the interpretation and translation of sacred texts, particularly within Islam. Modernity, emerging from Western socio-political and economic transformations, has influenced religious reform and shifted translation practices from revelation-based to rational and culturally adaptive approaches. The paper identifies key issues such as linguistic difficulties, cultural gaps, the marginalization of traditional frameworks, and the influence of digital media in spreading unofficial or sectarian translations. It highlights how some modern interpretations align religious texts with contemporary socio-political agendas, often at the expense of theological accuracy and classical exegesis. The trend of translation without scholarly grounding has further led to inconsistencies and doctrinal confusion. Additionally, the research reflects on the tension between using archaic versus contemporary language, which affects accessibility and theological fidelity. The study concludes that translating sacred texts today demands a rigorous, balanced approach that respects both the original message and the modern audience. The study aims to emphasize the importance of exegesis (Tafsir) in clarifying the content of the Qur'an by analyzing selected translations of Quranic verses that exhibit semantic ambiguity, which necessitates reference to Tafsir for proper interpretation. A qualitative, descriptive, and analytical approach is employed to highlight the need for exegesis in explaining these meanings. The study provides context and interpretation for each verse based on various sources. Subsequently, the English translations of these verses are analyzed and compared with the original text to ensure that the intended meanings, as explained in the provided exegesis, are accurately reflected in the translated versions. This research underscores the critical finding that translating the Holy Qur'an requires consulting the most authoritative Tafsir texts to fully explain and interpret the verses at different levels. Ultimately, this study aims to foster a deeper understanding of the necessity for collaboration between Islamic religious studies and translation studies to uncover the nuanced meanings within the Quranic text.
This study analyzes the rhetorical and semantic functions of prepositions and connective particles used in the Qur’anic description of worldly life. It demonstrates how these fundamental linguistic elements contribute not only to meaning but also to the miraculous nature of the Qur’an. The Qur’an presents worldly life as transient, deceptive, and ornamental, using precise grammatical and rhetorical strategies. Prepositions such as fi, min, ila, and bi, and connectives like thumma, fa, and hatta, are employed in ways that enhance clarity, emphasis, and depth of meaning. This research highlights the expressive power of these linguistic tools and how they help convey the profound messages of the Qur’an more effectively.
The Qur’an and the Sunnah are the two principal sources of guidance for Muslims. Both highlight the deviations and moral failures of previous nations—particularly Jews and Christians—as warnings to the Muslim community to avoid repeating the same errors. The Qur’an outlines their transgressions, while the Sunnah provides further context, identifying the causes of their misguidance and instructing Muslims to be cautious of similar pitfalls. In this context, the present study examines their faults as recorded in the Sunnah and emphasizes their relevance to contemporary Muslim conduct.Using a hadith-based analytical approach, this research explores key deviations such as grave worship, textual distortion, sorcery, betrayal, religious extremism, and blind following of religious authorities. The study is organized into two sections, addressing the specific errors attributed to Jews and Christians, supported by authentic narrations and scholarly analysis. The findings underscore the importance of maintaining pure monotheism, adhering strictly to divine guidance, and applying religious principles with justice and balance. By reflecting on the errors of past nations, the study highlights the need for Muslims to remain firmly committed to the Qur’an and Sunnah as a safeguard for faith and religious integrity.
Abdullah, Dr. Ali Tariq Copyright (c) 2025 Abdullah, Dr. Ali Tariq https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0 https://journals.iub.edu.pk/index.php/uas/article/view/3929 Sun, 22 Jun 2025 00:00:00 +0000
