Allama Muhammad Iqbal, as a philosopher-poet of the Muslim world, profoundly analyzed the decline of the Muslim Ummah and identified its underlying causes. According to him, one of the major reasons for this downfall is the Muslims’ preoccupation with outward rituals while neglecting the true spirit of Islam. Another fundamental cause, in his view, is the weakening of the Ummah’s emotional and spiritual attachment to the Holy Prophet (PBUH). Despite his criticism, Iqbal never lost hope in the revival of the Muslim community. He firmly believed that the regeneration of Muslim glory lies in rekindling the flame of ‘Ishq-e-Rasool’ — the passionate love for the Prophet (PBUH). In his poetry, Iqbal expressed unparalleled devotion and deep reverence for the Prophet and urged Muslims to reawaken this love in their hearts as the foundation of faith and action. This article explores Iqbal’s concept of ‘Ishq-e-Rasool’ as reflected in his poetry and its significance in reviving the moral and spiritual strength of the Muslim Ummah.
