Abstract

The purpose of this research paper is to study the hardships and difficulties encountered in the life of the famous Palestinian writer and poet Fadwa Tuqan and her continuous struggle which she mentions in her autobiography. An autobiography is a self-written life story. It is different from a biography, which is the life story of a person written by someone else. Reading autobiographies may be more interesting than biography because you are reading the thoughts of the person instead of someone else’s interpretation. Fadwa’s autobiography combines her literary, historical, social and political aspects in which protest poetry appears as a prominent form in her poetry. This study focuses on exploring the breaking the taboos of family oppression as well as colonial practices and political repression and the constant quest for freedom and freeing oneself from the social confinement of a male dominated society. Tuqan works reveal her inner work as she struggles with personal conflicts over many things, and she try to get rid of them and succeed in doing so. This paper consists of a preface, two sections and a conclusion. The 1st section gives brief introduction of Fadwa Tuqan and the 2nd describes her continuous efforts and struggles which she describes in her autobiography.
