Abstract

Mikhail nuayma a famous novelist, short story writer a poet and a scholar is one of the most famous Lebanese literary figures in twentieth century. His works have a great influence on Arab society supported by his depth of knowledge and vast experience of continuous travelling during his student and practical life as he studied in Lebanon, Palestine, Ukraine and America. He was an expert of Arabic, Russian and English languages. He was one of the founder members of pen league formed in New York. He presented marvelous works as he wrote more than twenty-five books in prose and poetry.

“Akabir” is one of his short stories’ collections published in 1956. The village life of Lebanon is his concern in thirteen stories of this book. He shows us a clear picture of customs; behaviors, hospitality and problems faced by Lebanese society as well as his stories indicate the reasons of migration of Lebanese to other countries. His views about life can easily be found out through reading of “Akabir”.
