Abstract

The rise of digital media and social networking platforms has introduced complex ethical and legal challenges for Muslim societies. Contemporary fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) seeks to address these issues through ijtihād (independent reasoning), drawing upon the Qur’an, Sunnah, and classical jurisprudential principles while engaging with modern realities. Issues such as digital privacy, online defamation, intellectual property, misinformation, and the responsible use of social media demand nuanced interpretations that safeguard Islamic ethical values. This study explores contemporary juristic efforts to balance freedom of expression with accountability, and technological innovation with moral responsibility, emphasizing the dynamic role of ijtihād in guiding Muslims in the digital era.
