Abstract

This research article provides a comprehensive critical analysis of the contemporary political challenges faced by Pakistan in the light of Islamic political thought. Pakistan was established on ideological foundations with the vision of an Islamic welfare state, yet since its inception, the country has been grappling with multifaceted political crises including political instability, institutional conflicts, corruption, nepotism, weak governance, electoral malpractices, constitutional crises, and religious extremism. This study examines these challenges through the lens of core Islamic political principles such as Divine Sovereignty (Hakimiyyah), Consultation (Shura), Justice (Adl), Rule of Law, Accountability (Hisbah), Trust (Amanah), and Political Responsibility. The research employs an inductive and analytical methodology, drawing upon primary sources of the Qur’an and Sunnah, classical fiqh literature, and contemporary Islamic political thought. The findings reveal that the deviation from Islamic political principles has been a fundamental cause of Pakistan’s political instability. The study concludes that the implementation of Islamic political principles—particularly Shura-based governance, merit-based appointments, transparent accountability, and the supremacy of law—offers a viable solution to Pakistan’s persistent political crises. This research contributes to the understanding of how classical Islamic political theory can be applied to contemporary statecraft in Pakistan.
