Abstract

This paper seeks to present a scientific booklet that is small in size and of great significance, which is “AL-FATH AL-KHABEER BIMA LA BUDDA MIN HIFZIHI FI ILM AL TAFSEER”( What must be memorized in the science of interpretation)  by shah Waliullah Dehlavi (1703- 1762). It is a unique work, the like of which has not been written in India or abroad.

This paper reviews the features of this booklet (AL-FATH AL-KHABEER) which consists of 23 pages of large size. In which Shah Waliullah explained about 2,000 strange words out of the 112 Surahs of the Holy Qur'an. And this interpretation, in general, is a verbal explanation, but in several places there are short but intense discussions, which are supported and explained by Quranic verses, prophetic hadiths, and sayings of the imams.

The paper also discusses the importance of Ibn Abi Talha's SAHEEFAH, on which this booklet was based. Undoubtedly, Ibn Abi Talha's  SAHEEFAH is considered the best and most truthful in the field of knowledge of the strange words of the Qur'an.

This paper also sheds lights on the approach of Shah Wali Allah and his methodology in this treatise and his point of view on the SAHEEFAH of Ali Ibn Abi Talha in particular and on the knowledge of the strange words of the Qur’an in general.
