Al-Busiri’s Burdah and its Impact on the Poem of Praise to the Prophet: Criticism and Analysis

Abstract

This research sheds light on the Burda poem and the emergence of the Prophet's eulogies and the influence of Al-Busiri on Ibn Al-Farid and the impact of Al-Busiri's Burda on poets of the Prophet's eulogies, ancient and modern, and its impact on poets of the Badi'iyyat. It also showed the artistic value of the Burda poem, its purposes, styles and topics. The research also discussed the intertextuality between Al-Busiri and other poets and the quotation from the Qur'an, Sunnah and biography. It also discussed some Sufi terms such as the Muhammadan truth, supplication to the Prophet Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, and self-monitoring and self-refinement. The research also discussed the music of the poem and its impact on its popularity and ease of singing in popular circles. Al-Busiri's Burda became popular in literary circles and popular religious societies. Its fame reached the entire Islamic world and was translated into most living languages. Muslims sang it in the East and West of the earth. It can be classified as a global poem. Sufis adopted it as a rose to draw closer to God. Al-Busiri's Burda had a clear impact on the poem of the Prophet's eulogy, so it became a guide. The poets of the Prophet's praises were guided by it after the era of Al-Busiri, so they included it in their poems. They divided it into two parts, five parts, seven parts, opposed it, explained it, and translated it into living languages, including Persian, German, French, English, Italian, Urdu, Tatar, and Turkish. Many scholars and writers explained it, and Muslim scholars and orientalists wrote about it. This is what made us describe it as the universal poem that is in harmony with the universality of the message. Among its names are: Al-Burda, Al-Bara'a, and Al-Kawakib Al-Durriya in praise of the best of creation. It was a reason for the emergence of the innovations that its owners followed in its approach, which enriched the art of innovation through it. The student of Al-Busiri's Burda finds that it includes Sufi, jurisprudential, linguistic, and grammatical terminology, the biography of the Prophet, rhetoric, innovation, and artistic imagery. It has multiple purposes and imitates the biography of the Prophet Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace. Al-Busiri composed it, hoping that God would heal him from the paralysis that afflicted him, so it came out sincere in its emotions. Therefore, the Burda poem has an open field. For students, each according to his specialization. Students of Islamic literature, Sufi literature, criticism, rhetoric, wording, meaning, and the music of poetry will find what they are looking for in Al-Busiri’s Burda..
