Over the past few decades, Arabic literature has undergone profound transformations as a result of the digital revolution, which has reshaped patterns of literary production, media platforms, and modes of reception. Literature is no longer confined to its traditional printed form; rather, what is known as digital literature has emerged as a new creative mode in which text interacts with multimedia, interactivity, and networked environments. This transformation has generated numerous critical and methodological challenges concerning the extent to which traditional critical approaches can accommodate digital phenomena. It has also raised important questions about the possibility of establishing an Arabic theory of digital literature that is rooted in Arab cultural and linguistic specificity while remaining open to global theoretical developments. This study aims to analyze the fundamental concepts of digital literature, examine the critical approaches employed in its study, and identify the major challenges facing the development of a comprehensive Arabic theory in this field. It also seeks to explore the intellectual potential of the Arab critical heritage in contributing to the formulation of a new theoretical framework capable of interpreting contemporary digital literary phenomena. The study adopts a descriptive-analytical approach, supplemented by a comparative critical perspective, through an examination of Arabic and international scholarship on digital literature and its theories. The findings suggest that the construction of an Arabic theory of digital literature cannot be achieved through the direct imitation of Western models. Rather, it requires a creative critical interaction between Arab cultural specificity and global technological developments in order to produce a theoretical framework capable of understanding current transformations and anticipating future developments.
