Abstract

The Nile poet Hafiz Ibrahim (1872-1932) is considered to be one of the most important poets of the Egyptians in the modern age.

He is contemporary of the renowned poet Ahmed Shawqi. A number of comparative studies have been jointly carried out by them. While Shawqi has been titled the ‘Leader of the Poets’, Hafiz has received the title of the ‘Poet of Nile and Poet of People’.

Hafiz always stood by his people and never left them behind. He always remained in the forefront, screaming in the face of Englishmen, along with other leaders and front-runners of his people. Hafiz completely grasped the problems of the Egyptian society and presented these issues in an excellent manner in his poetry.

As we know, in every society there are certain issues which become very important for the community. Hafiz Ibrahim’s generation has dealt with some of these important social problems. At the top of these issues are: National unity and religious tolerance; Development of education; and Emancipation (Women's liberty & freedom).

In this research paper I will talk about these three issues in detail and will show how Hafiz Ibrahim contributed in handling these sensitive

issues. I have divided this paper into four sections:

First Topic gives brief introduction of Hafiz Ibrahim

Second Topic relates to national unity & religious tolerance

Third Topic elaborates the issue of development of education

Fourth Topic throws light on the issue of emancipation.
