Abstract

Ibn Shams is Prince Majd Al Mulk Abu Al Fadhl Taafar bin Shams Al Khulafa. He is one of the creative poets of the Appobian Age. He had an intimate relationship with Sultan Salahudin Ayyobi and one of his princes. Also he was close to his son, king Aziz and his son king Ghazi. He had contact with most Ayyobian kings and praised them who in turn were generous to him.

This poet was equipped with a great measure of culture and poetry. He was well – versed in the disciplines of his age. Also he was versatile. He had an impressive handwriting and people enjoyed his writing for its grace and beauty. Also he had valuable literary studies. Ancient men of letters and crities admired his poetry and praised it and lionized.

Ibn Shamas Al Khulafa had one volume of verse, studied and cited by Ibn Khulgan. Ibn Said al Andalusi described the poet as one of the most famous poets of his age. He also pointed out that he read his volume of verse and selected some of its poems. Ibn Al Adeem said that he also read the manuscript of his poetry and quoted some of it. Also Mohammed Bin Aidmur read that volume and had citations from it. His poetry is characterized by genuine feelings, linguistic grandeur, beauty of phrase and expression. He tackled his poetry all types of poetic objectives such as euology, self – pride, complaining, elegy, courtship, wisdom and satire.

The most striking feature of his poetry is that it is far from being artificial. By disposition he is a poet, even though he sometimes celebrates some types of rhetoric. The poet died during the reign of king Kamil on the 12 of Moharm, H622.
