Abstract

This article analyzes the key characteristics of modern democracy and traditional Islamic thought, focusing on their points of harmony and divergence. The topic has been chosen in light of the increasing global significance of modern democratic systems and the prevailing perception among proponents of democracy that Islamic governance is undemocratic and autocratic. They argue that Islam's governance system does not adequately address fundamental human rights and personal freedoms. This article seeks to challenge this notion by using references from the Qur'an and Sunnah to demonstrate that Islam provides a comprehensive way of life, replete with principles of fundamental human rights, personal freedom, justice, equality, and fairness. It argues that the Islamic system is not inferior to modern democracy; rather, it surpasses it in aspects such as accountability and transparency, which are unparalleled in other systems.

Moreover, Islamic governance promotes universal brotherhood, peace, and harmony, serving as a model for an inclusive and equitable society. In contrast, the modern democratic system often lacks universal applicability, as its implementation is contingent upon specific prerequisites tailored to regional social needs. On the other hand, the

Islamic democratic system provides uniform and equitable laws that transcend geographical and religious boundaries, ensuring justice and equality for all.
