Abstract

This study investigates the structural integration of Da'wah (Islamic preaching) and Tarbiyah (spiritual upbringing) within Sheikh Ashraf Ali Thanwi’s reformist methodology. Challenging the traditional bifurcation of his contributions into separate domains of jurisprudence and Sufism, this research demonstrates that Thanwi viewed outward instruction and inward spiritual cultivation as a singular, cohesive paradigm. Employing a descriptive-analytical approach, the study reveals that Thanwi diagnosed the Muslim community's decline as a compound issue of knowledge deficiency and weak resolve, prescribing academic education and spiritual companionship (Suhbah) as respective remedies. Furthermore, he recalibrated Tazkiyah (purification) as the essence of the Shari'ah, governed strictly by the Qur'an and Sunnah. Emphasizing his pedagogical principles of moderation, facilitation, and the prioritization of interpersonal rights (Huquq al-Ibad), the paper concludes that Thanwi’s framework provides a holistic, indispensable model for contemporary Islamic reform
